What is ADHD?
ADHD stands for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. It is a neurodevelopmental disorder that manifests in childhood but can extend well into adulthood. Individuals with ADHD present with symptoms of inattentiveness or hyperactivity, impulsivity, or both. These symptoms affect cognitive functioning, academic achievement, emotional, behavioral, and social functioning. It is crucial that the child gets diagnosed accurately and timely as this disorder can impair functioning and lead to poor life choices, not limited to substance use. Sometimes children do not receive a diagnosis until they are adults. And most adults with ADHD may not even be aware of it. How is ADHD Diagnosed?
